In 2016, Centre for Advanced Research in Management and Applied Ethics launched a series of events for people working in Ethics & Compliance or collateral fields (from Anti-Fraud and Risk Management to Internal Audit and Sustainability). It was 10 years later from the first steps taken in Romania and by Romanian specialists to build a professional community. This event is a continuation of that initiative and we hope you will join our efforts to promote integrity in the private, public and civil sectors.

In the increasingly heated debates surrounding the justification of Intellectual Property Rights, arguments grounded in ethics try to minimize economic arguments. But where is the place of good-faith in the system for the enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights? Can acting in good-faith avoid or minimize the risks associted with the infringement of Intellectual Property Rights? How can compliance policies be designed to minimize such risks?
In dezbaterile tot mai aprige privind justificarea drepturilor de proprietate intelectuala, argumentele ancorate în considerente etice încearca sa le minimizeze pe cele economice. Dar care este locul bunei-credinte in sistemul de protectie a drepturilor de proprietate intelectuala? Poate buna-credinta sa evite sau sa minimizeze riscurile asociate incalcarii drepturilor de proprietate intelectuala? Ce se poate face din punct de vedere al politicilor de compliance pentru a minimiza riscul?
Paul Buta, PhD in Intellectual Property Law and Assistant Professor with the “Nicolae Titulescu” Faculty of Law, has over 12 years experience in the field and has specialized in intellectual property law, competition law and civil and commercial litigation. His involvement has mainly been in complex projects involving both assistance and representation of a significant portfolio of international clients (mainly foreign investors and multinationals) on issues pertaining to intellectual property law, competition law as well as related dispute resolution proceedings. Paul is also recognized for his expertise in tax litigation and international arbitration, particularly for his ability to analyze multifaceted factual situations and to provide innovative solutions in order to successfully manage complex projects and commercial disputes.

Stress in organisational context, apart from the stress affecting an individual in general, is a phenomenon only recently recognized as such and studied by specialists in Psychology, Organizational Studies, Business Ethics etc. Its role has become more and more relevant to the Ethics & Compliance professionals due to its intimate connection to the mechanisms that determine morally and legally sound bevahiours. And this relevance concerns not only the behaviours of other members of the organisation, but also the behaviours of the Ethics & Compliance professionals themselves. This presentation will focus on the contribution of Mindfulness as a way to tackle the issue of stress in organisational context.
Stresul in context organizational, distinct de stresul care afecteaza indivizii in genere, este un fenomen care a fost recent recunoscut ca atare si studiat de specialisti in Psihologie, Studii Organizationale, Etica in afaceri etc. Rolul sau a devenit din ce in ce mai relevant pentru profesionistii in Etica & Conformitate datorita relatiei stranse pe care acest fenomen o are cu mecanismele ce determina comportamente corecte din punct de vedere moral si legal. Iar aceasta relevanta priveste nu doar comportamentele altor membri ai organizatiei, ci si comportamentele profesionistilor in Etica & Conformitate insisi. Aceasta prezentare se va concentra pe contributia Mindfulness ca metoda de a aborda chestiunea stresului in context organizational.

Valérie is a qualified MBSR® (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction) trainer of the University of Massachusetts Medical School, where this method was first devised, to be subsequently used successfully in medicine, education or business.
Valérie has three university degrees in life sciences, social-economic development and economy, and a PhD on the restructuring of transition economies; she first worked as researcher and then as practitioner in the evolution of social-economic systems and the adaptation of economic actors to a shifting business environment. She is interested both in societal level transition processes and in individual processes of change and resilience.
After 15 years of practising mindfulness in her personal life, Valérie decided to turn this into a profession and she achieved the MBSR® official certification. In her everyday life, she practices the mindfulness techniques that she teaches, not only as a form of mental hygiene, but also because she feels this is her duty to the workshop participants.
